ABOUT ON!

Opening Night Theater was born from the desire of one parent to bring a musical theatre program to her son's elementary school. Little did she know, that would be the dress rehearsal for the exciting journey ahead.

The ON! Theater team has been putting on musical productions together within the Los Angeles school system since 2017. Then, in 2019, Opening Night Theater was born, with the goal of bringing musical theatre to as many schools and communities across the city as possible.

After a brief snag due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and following many virtual musicals and showcases performed via Zoom, Opening Night Theater officially opened its doors in 2021.

Our founding team of directors is comprised of professional dancers, actors, writers, and educators. And while we all come from different backgrounds and various areas of expertise, there's nothing we love more than helping young performers discover themselves on the stage.

Our programs are designed to expose students to all fundamentals of theatre. From music, dance, and acting, to crew/backstage positions for our older groups. Working with every student on each of these performance fundamentals allows them to find their areas of strength and interest, and sets us on a path to helping them develop those skills.

While the fundamentals are crucial, we firmly believe that the shared, collaborative experience of musical theatre supports performers of every age in developing their social and emotional skills. Theatre is a tool of expression and individuality. The goal isn't just to develop better performers, but better people. Most of our casts are open to young performers of all levels and experience.

Opening Night Theater is a place where young performers can find themselves and build character, realize their capabilities and grow their confidence, and develop lasting relationships in a supportive theatre community.
